The goal of this module is to learn more about internet safety and how you can help insure your family stays safe online.
Internet safety is a huge concern for us parents. If we're going to be expecting our children to do more things on the computer and with technology in general, we want them to be safe about it. If we are to teach our children media literacy, we must also be teaching them internet safety (Gallagher, 2011). It's imperative to set some rules and guidelines ahead of time. First, read through the articles listed below.
Once you've completed the selected readings, brainstorm some ideas of what the rules will be in your home with your child. These rules and guidelines are something that will need to be revisited and adjusted as needed. If your child is mature enough, I would like to encourage you to get some feedback from your child on what the rules should be. Write down the rules you decide upon, and share them on our discussion board (under internet safety). You can use any of a variety of modes to share your rules such as text from a word document, a link to a blog or something such as glogster.
